Pilates is a comprehensive exercise system with over 500 exercises that emphasize strength, flexibility, body awareness, alignment, and coordination of movement. This exercise method, originally termed “contrology,” was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early-20th century. The countless benefits of Pilates are valuable for a wide range of fitness levels from novice mover to high-level athlete.
For beginners, the best place to start is with private lessons. This will allow you to truly learn and understand the fundamentals of Pilates with a workout that is tailored to your unique body.
Pilates is not just about exercise, it’s about connecting to your body so that you feel more in control of your movements. Because of this, it’s an amazing cross training tool. You will see, feel and experience a difference, whether you come to group classes once a week or take private lessons 3 times a week. Pilates doesn't stay in the studio- you take it with you when you leave, in your posture, in your breathing, in your increased awareness of how your body moves.
It all depends on you! Arielle will go at your pace to reach your goals. How fast we do that depends on the time and effort you put in. Very often, students will comment how their brains are working just as hard as their bodies during lessons. That's because Pilates requires you to break down movements into many pieces so you can build strength and control.
For in-home lessons, no equipment is necessary other than a mat; Arielle will provide a magic circle for the workout. We may also utilize any Pilates equipment that you have in your home.
For virtual lessons, you will need an exercise mat and a device (computer, phone, etc.) to access your lesson. It may also be helpful to have access to a magic circle and 1lb weights. If you have any other equipment in your home, we may utilize it.
